Enrollment in Obamacare has skyrocketed in the last few years, jumping from
11.4 million in 2019 to 24.3 million in 2025. How did that happen?

During the COVID-19 pandemic, President Biden enacted legislation that
temporarily eliminated the income eligibility requirement for Obamacare and fully subsidized the premiums of
42% of enrollees. They are set to expire at the end of 2025.
Health insurance companies have since taken advantage of these Biden COVID Credits, which are paid directly to them by the U.S. Treasury, by fraudulently enrolling an estimated
6.5 million people. Insurance companies received at least
$35 billion in subsidies for about
12 million ACA enrollees in 2024 who made zero medical claims that year. This means the insurance companies can
cash in on the credits while not providing any services.
The insurance companies are now
lobbying hard to make the Biden COVID Credits permanent so they don’t lose their cost-free
taxpayer-funded revenue stream. To reduce this waste, fraud, and abuse, the Biden COVID Credits should be allowed to expire.
